Kilarny - July 13th and 14th
The last couple days of our vacation was spent in a town in the south west known as Kilarny. Friday we spent roaming around the town and Saturday was spent at Eric Anderson's (Melissa's brother) tournament. Eric was part of Team USA in the Martial Arts world competition. All of the non-competition pictures we took in Kilarny were taken on the rainiest day of our trip. The shots that you see outside were taken from a jaunting car (horse drawn carriage) trip that we took around the national park there. It was so wet, it was almost funny....
Here's a picture of Innisfallen Island. There is a monastic settlement here as well. Innisfallen was known for their monks who were veracious copiers. There was also a historical document produced there called the Annals of Innisfallen.
Another picture taken at the same point. I didn't think Melissa did too bad considering most of these were taken from a moving, bumpy cart. :)
Here's us in front of a thatched roof cottage that is now a restaurant in the park. Our whacky driver was taking the picture.
Same ride, only in front of the cathedral in Kilarny. It was raining so hard at this point. Melissa and I later went into a restaurant to dry off and spent an hour in there before we had gotten remotely dry.
Here's a shot of Ross Castle, Kilarny's castle.
Here's a bit of a wider, different angle of Ross. After our soggy ride, we made it back into Kilarny, met Eric and Wanda for dinner and then went home to dry off further...
Eric in full uniform at the competition
We watched Eric do judging for the competition for some of the day. He competed later in the afternoon.
We were walking out of the National Events Center, where the competition was located and dropped our camera. At this point, I turned to Melissa, snapped this shot and said 'It looks like it is working...I hope'. Boring picture, I know, but I thought the flags were at least interesting. :)
And that is the end. I hope your enjoyed our little photo-tour of our first trip to Ireland. Of course, there are a few shots still in the camera that we'll develop shortly, but that's it for now, until we travel a little further down the road...
