OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this course is to begin
acquiring a professional perspective of the role full-time business educators play on a day-to-day basis in a public school
setting. Specifically, students will:
·
Become oriented to the real
demands of a teaching career in business education;
·
Develop a positive working
relationship with a practicing professional
business educator;
·
Contribute to student
learning by providing assistance to the mentor teacher with
grading,
planning, instructing, guiding, record keeping, and other educational duties
as assigned; and
·
Demonstrate the correct
etiquette and professional behavior of an aspiring pre-service
educator.

CRITERIA FOR
EVALUATION:
Basic Expectations:
·
Follow mentor school’s
security procedures by signing in and wearing identification while at the
mentoring site;
·
Follow the BTE 199 instructor’s
directions in arranging UTA site and mentor;
·
Make arrangements to meet
with mentor to determine schedule and beginning duties;
·
Make appointment and meet
with BTE 199 instructor at least once every two weeks
to discuss activities and outcomes.
·
Maintain regular schedule at
your school and inform mentor of changes when needed;
·
Cooperate and complete
assignments as directed;
·
Attend and participate in
two (2) seminar sessions during the semester;
·
Complete and deliver
bi-monthly reports to your university supervisor;
·
Complete at least 50 hours
of assistance during the semester for your mentor teacher;
·
Based on experiences during BTE 199, develop and revise (2-3 times) a
perspectives essay on the nature of teaching and learning in public school settings;
·
Have mentor teacher complete a mid-term and final evaluation of your
performance;
·
Meet with your mentor teacher and your BTE 199 instructor to discuss
your performance;
·
Complete the Dispositions Checklist;
·
Have your mentor complete the Dispositions Checklist;
·
Hold a meeting with your mentor teacher to discuss the differences and
similarities in the results of the completed Disposition Checklists; and
·
Complete and submit all reports and records needed for earning approved
clinical experience hours.
