Process of Enrolling in an Internship

1.   Have a meeting with the internship coordinator.  Please bring with you the  following:

  • A completed Internship Application Form, including information on business course and your ISU GPA

  • Your resume (most employers will want to review them)

 2.   The internship coordinator will review the form and discuss with you some ideas for finding an internship.

 ·        The student may already have an internship opportunity in mind. The internship coordinator may be able to give approval to pursue this opportunity and how to proceed.

·        The internship coordinator may be able to suggest a particular internship opportunity. This is particularly true for students that have the requisite skills, finance courses, and relevant interests; and having a GPA of 3.2 or greater.

·        The internship coordinator may be able to suggest a few contacts for students to pursue on their own in order to obtain an internship. He may also be able to give them an introduction to the company. Please be aware that we are not an employment agency—it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to “do the footwork.”  The internship coordinator will assist wherever possible.

·        Some students may find it necessary to search for a good internship experience on their own. See the sheet on tips for finding an internship on your own.

 3.                  The student has an interview with a company that agrees to give an internship. They should discuss, at least in a basic format, what the internship would entail.

 4.                  The student schedules another meeting with the internship coordinator for approval of the internship or to learn what must be done to gain approval.

 5.                  Once the internship coordinator approves the internship, he will assist the student in accomplishing the paperwork required to initiate it
